Snuggled away in a little corner of Orchard Road is a comfy little place for an afternoon or evening chat. Although it was almost 2:30pm when we met, I was quite surprised that my 2 friends had actually just woke up. And of course, the best antidote for waking people is none other than.. you guessed it.. COFFEE!
I must say, after the first 10 minutes of sipping our drinks; none of us were actually very impressed with the coffee. Edmond wasn’t too awake after the coffee; and Serene complained that hers was too watery. I’m surprised an Iced Mocha can actually be watery even with a big scoop of ice cream on top. Having said that, I didn’t taste her coffee. But i did think that my standard-used-to-measure-a-good-coffee cappuccino was better than the average mass-produced coffee; but lacked the oomph that Edmond says lights up my eyes when I taste it.
We chatted over random stuff, surfed a little on FB on Serene’s iPhone. My Hawaiian pizza came piping hot; and I must say this was pretty good stuff. Seriously, how bad can hot, baked bread with ham, cheese and pineapples be? I thoroughly enjoyed this though it cost me $3 per slice. Haaa.
Ahh yes. And Matt arrived; without warning! Serene forgot to tell us. She glossed over the fact. Geddit, geddit? Matt, Gloss. Gloss, Matt. Glossed over Matt. Okay. I’m sorry.
I’m glad to announce that I decided to give the coffee another shot. Figuring that my cappuccino was decent but not flavourful enough, I thought maybe a little less milk would do the trick. And Aha! My piccolo latte came.
This, my friend, is pretty darned good stuff. 4.25/5 I have no idea if it was because my ‘less-milk’ idea worked, or maybe the Barista had changed shift at 3pm. (We were there from 2 – 4pm; and I know many F&B outlets change shifts at 3pm.) This was flavourful, slightly yet delightfully bitter. No smells from the milk. I must say, this really made me consider going back again for the coffee.
Caffe Beviamo is a pretty decent place. I would love to try some of the cakes and desserts if not for my health issues. My slight gripe about the place is that it’s directly below the clear roof, so the sun does come in a little. Other bloggers writing about this cafe have commented that it’s nice and warm; just nice for them. But for me, it’s too warm as I tend to perspire very easily.
Didn’t bring my lappie with me; but my iPod did show a good strong Wireless@SG signal. Shouldn’t be a problem on laptops; it’s my iPod that often has problems connecting. No powerpoints though, come with a fully charged battery. But then again, this place is more of a coffee and eating place rather than a chill-out and relax place. Limited seats, so you probably don’t want to hang around too long.
If you happen to be in town and are looking for place to relax a bit to hide from the crazy crowds and crazy weather; this place might just do the trick for you.
